Choosing a hat that complements your hairstyle
At Katherine Elizabeth, we believe that anyone can pull off a hat. The trick is choosing a hat that suits your face shape as well as your hairstyle.
Whilst we have already spoken about face shape, we now want to talk about your crowning glory. Finding the right hat - one that accentuates your facial features along with your hair type and length can certainly be a tricky business. And whilst this may all sound a little overwhelming, we’ve put together a few hints and tips that will help you choose the right hat for you and your hair. Let your hat journey begin!
But first, take a look at your luscious locks and consider how best you’d describe your hair length and hair type. If it’s any help, we at Katherine Elizabeth tend to work with this rule of thumb. Short hair ranges from a pixie cut to a short bob or any other style that finishes at the chin. Medium-length hair tends to be any hairstyle that hits anything between the chin and shoulder. And long hair is well and truly below the shoulder. Also, think about how you would describe your natural hair type - thick, curly, wavy, thin, or straight?
If you have long thick hair or indeed curly hair…
You need to check out knit beanies as they are stretchy and can accommodate your voluminous mane! Opt for a loose-fitting beanie otherwise, you’ll suffer from the dreaded ‘hat hair’ as soon as you take your hat off. Also, it’s worth spending a few minutes making sure that some of your curls or bangs pop out to say ‘hello’ from underneath the beanie. This little trick gives a little more drama and balance to your overall look.
Long straight hair looks great under a floppy hat or fedora. In the summer, a straw hat gives off that slightly hippie vibe, and in the winter months, a heavier floppy hat teamed up with a duster coat exudes boho chic. You can either let your locks run free or you could mix it up and wear your hair braided or in a low-slung ponytail.
If you have medium hair…
Take a look at a classic fedora - its style and shape balance so well with your hair length. At the same time, experiment with the informality of a baseball cap. A low bun along with a sweatshirt, jeans, and dress coat will certainly hit that sweet spot.
And if you have short hair…
Then quite frankly the hat world is your oyster! Short-brim fedoras, beanies, buckets, and cloche hats perfectly complement your pixie cut or bob. Do remember that if you want to add a touch of quirkiness to your look, tease out a little hair from beneath the hat - it will make all the world of difference.
And finally long, medium or short, you can all rock a fascinator! Just remember one rule - the size of the fascinator should coordinate with the length.
And remember here at Katherine Elizabeth, we are always happy to help.
